Year 5LS visit Longton Fire Station
On Tuesday 25th June 2024, Y5LS visited Longton Fire Station to take part in a 'Safe and Sound,' morning. During the morning, we took part in lots of different workshops based on how to keep us safe in different scenarios. We looked at how to stay safe around a truck and discussed how dangerous it can be if we are stood in a blind spot when a truck is moving. We also spent time talking to members of the police force about what makes a good person and how peer pressure can get people into trouble. The children also learnt about the effects of alcohol and drugs on people. They even got to put on a special pair of goggles, which simulates how people see when they are drunk, whilst driving a remote control car around a track. Again we discussed the dangers that drink driving can pose. To finish we helped to find hazards in a building and how they can be fire hazards if not removed as well as what to do if there is a fire in our own homes. All of the children enjoyed these workshops and are now more aware of how to keep themselves safe.
